Vancouver Special Educational Catechesis

VANSPEC offers Catholic Religious Education instruction to Special Needs children, teens and  young adults with Specific Learning and Intellectual Challenges including Autism, Attention Deficit Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Downs’ Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and other Developmental Disabilities.  All potential students require a VANSPEC Assessment before enrollment into the program.

  • VANSPEC is directed by the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence, who began the program in September 1982 at the invitation of Archbishop J.F. Carney.  Since that time we have taught over 500 students.

  • VANSPEC is staffed by Catholic volunteers who are catechists and assistants that generously share their faith, time and talents with a Special Needs student.

  • VANSPEC is one to one Religious Educational Instruction, the catechist and student, in a dynamic relationship of learning - about Jesus and His Church, for Christian daily living, for spiritual growth, and for fuller integration in the Catholic Church community.

  • VANSPEC is created so that students with special needs learn may about their faith at their level of understanding.

  • VANSPEC is a grace to parents, who want to impart the Catholic faith to their special child through a unique program of individualized instruction.

  • VANSPEC is a gift from Catechist to Student and from Student to Catechist!

  • VANSPEC is located at five locations:
MAIN CENTRE - Vancouver
All Saints, Coquitlam
Immaculate Conception, Delta
St. Luke’s, Maple Ridge
St. Matthew’s, Surrey
